Biography Unit

Biography Unit has been updated!

Biography means "writing about life." In this complete reading unit, readers learn only about a variety of notable subjects - their achievements, impact, struggles, and the world in which they live. Students will make arguments about the significance of the person's accomplishments and to extract life lessons. 

The resource is organized around TWELVE lessons or big ideas of biographies. Each big idea has the following: 

•  Session Synopsis (detailed lesson plan) 
• Anchor Chart Task (independent or group work) 

I have also included a bibliography and an overview of how I organize my reading block.

Multiplication Anchor Charts and Activities

Multiplication is a difficult concept for many students to grasp. Many students learn their multiplication tables without understanding the concept that underlies - that multiplication is an easier form of addition. 

I created a 118 page resource to help students demonstrate an understanding of multiplication. To demonstrate their understanding of the basic multiplication facts, students will learn the following strategies or properties:

Remembrance Day

Canadians recognize Remembrance Day, originally called Armistice Day, every 11 November at 11 a.m. It marks the end of hostilities during the First World War and an opportunity to recall all those who have served in the nation’s defence. 

This resource examines the importance of remembrance; and the service and sacrifice of Canada's veterans and peacekeepers. Knowing our past influences the present – our action, beliefs, and understandings. 

It introduces students to the importance of Remembrance Day through: 

• Reading about Canada’s national monuments and heroes. 
• Identifying words related to Remembrance Day and classifying the words by parts of speech
• Creating a parts of speech Remembrance Day poem
