Multiplication is a difficult concept for many students to grasp. Many students learn their multiplication tables without understanding the concept that underlies - that multiplication is an easier form of addition. 

I created a 118 page resource to help students demonstrate an understanding of multiplication. To demonstrate their understanding of the basic multiplication facts, students will learn the following strategies or properties:

Remembrance Day

Canadians recognize Remembrance Day, originally called Armistice Day, every 11 November at 11 a.m. It marks the end of hostilities during the First World War and an opportunity to recall all those who have served in the nation’s defence. 

This resource examines the importance of remembrance; and the service and sacrifice of Canada's veterans and peacekeepers. Knowing our past influences the present – our action, beliefs, and understandings. 

It introduces students to the importance of Remembrance Day through: 

• Reading about Canada’s national monuments and heroes. 
• Identifying words related to Remembrance Day and classifying the words by parts of speech
• Creating a parts of speech Remembrance Day poem 

The resource is organized around 3 sessions:

Pumpkin Fun!

Pumpkins of every size and kind are a favourite autumnal treat.The students had so much fun analyzing and describing their pumpkins. We culminated the fun by carving our pumpkins and roasting the seeds.

The students completed eight stations. The eight stations include:

1. Estimating the number of seeds in a pumpkin
2. Measuring mass
3. Making a pumpkin treat
4. Measuring circumference
5. Designing a jack-o'-lantern face 
6. Measuring height
7. Comparing pumpkins
8. Buoyancy

Each station card was laminated on cardstock for durability.

Early Immigration to Canada

From 1867 to 1914, the Canadian West opened for mass settlement, and became home to millions of immigrant settlers seeking a new life. The Prairie Provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta grew rapidly in these years as settlers began to transform the barren prairie flatland and establish unique cultural settlements. Many motivations brought immigrants to Canada: greater economic opportunity and improved quality of life, an escape from oppression and persecution, and opportunities and adventures presented to desirable immigrant groups by Canadian immigration agencies. 

I have created a zip file to help students build an understanding of Prairie immigration experiences and settlement patterns.

The resource contains:

• A complete 45 page unit with six lessons
