Commercials for Grade 8 Project Business

The grade threes have created commercials to persuade others to persuade peers to visit a chosen grade eight Project Business stand. We have been studying persuasive techniques and the tenets of persuasive writing. We learned about this form of nonfiction writing that encourages careful word choice, the development of logical arguments, and a cohesive summary. We also analyzed commercials, restaurant reviews, advertisements, leaflets, and letters to determine persuasive techniques and evaluate the effectiveness of the chosen technique.

Please view the students' commercials. The commercials are linked by a QR Code, or a two-dimensional barcode. Smartphones have the ability to read both QR codes which automatically take you to a website URL. All you need to do is download a QR reader app, such as QR Code Reader, and then simply point your smartphone camera at the codes.

The videos can also be viewed on Ms. Walter's playlist Commercials by Students.

Mother's Day Tea

Mother's Day is celebrated across forty-six countries, though on different dates. People take the day as an opportunity to honour their mothers, thank them for their efforts in giving them life, raising them, and being their constant support and well wisher.

The class had an opportunity to pay tribute to their mothers and grandmothers during our Mother's Day Tea. The students served cupcakes and squares - desserts which they baked themselves! After food and fellowship, the students read selected self-written poetry. We culminated the celebration with a message to mothers from Kid President.

We thank the mothers and grandmothers for their attendance at our Tea.
We love you!

Magnets

We are studying magnets in Science. We have learned many things about magnets thus far.

  1. There are different shapes of magnets: bar, horseshoe, disc, ring, and cylinder.
  2. When something is magnetic, it can pull things with steel or iron towards the magnet.
  3. The two ends of a magnet are called the north and south poles. These are the parts where the magnets are strongest.
  4. Around these poles is an area known as a magnetic field. In the magnetic field, other magnetic objects can be drawn to the magnet.

CBC Radio's Saskatoon Morning

CBC Radio's Saskatoon Morning is on the lookout for a unique school in the city. It's asking for people to nominate their school, sharing what makes it special. Saskatoon Morning will host a live broadcast from the winning school.

We would like to thank a student's parent for nominating our school. It is truly an honour to be nominated for teaching these beautiful students.

In response to the nomination, the class has made a video and accompanying audio recording highlighting the outstanding parts of our school mentioned in the letter.
